Our project is titled "Artemotion Xpress in Europe" and consists of 6 countries: Greece, which is the coordinating country, Germany, Poland, Romania, Spain and Slovenia.
This project is addressed to children with special needs attending public special education preschool, primary and secondary schools. Our pupils have developmental, behavioral and neurological disorders with all the characteristic symptoms that these diagnoses consist such as: communicational problems, language impairments, mental retardation, autism, psycho kinetic disorders, psycho-emotional disorders.
When a pupil is educated to comprehend others' emotions and express his own, and in addition through art, not only he develops a better understanding of his surrounding, but increases and acquires a positive feeling and attitude. Development of comprehension of the outer world sustains better the perception of the school curriculum. Art, in all its types, makes persons joyful. Consequently, it can make a disadvantaged learner to present regularly at school and to put in his best to do well at school work.
The basic and fundamental skills which SEN children should develop as a whole, include basic life skills (every day activities), social skills and academic skills. These are the areas of development where our pupils have the greatest constraints and difficulties. Thus, we will try to develop these basic and transversal skills by using innovative methods through arts focusing greatly to the expression of the emotions which cover every aspect of life (school life, family life, leisure time, work, social life).
We will also try with this project to strengthen the profile of the teaching professions such as special education teachers, psychologists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, social workers, ICT teachers for special education, art therapists, physical education teachers, psycho motor therapists, physiotherapists, clinical psychologists, ICT coordinators, help staff, through mobility and cross-border cooperation in order to explore and learn new innovative methods of treatment for SEN pupils, to obtain new tools for the accomplishment of our goals and to exchange good practices for a high quality education.
